Ingrid Schmoliner - piano
Alex Kranabetter – trumpet

Ingrid Schmoliner and Alex Kranabetter, two sound artists from the Viennese experimental music scene, have come together and decided to start a joint duo project focussing on the experimental use of their instruments; prepared piano and trumpet.
The special instrumentation and the strong influences from improvised-experimental and contemporary music, has shaped their sound and compositions. Dark loops and drones merge with repetitive patterns, church bell-like, meditative sounds with fleeting melodies and beats. The idiosyncratic and multi-layered textures are intended to draw the room into a maelstrom and allow it to breathe at the same time. drank seeks the in-between.

The pianist and singer Ingrid Schmoliner lives and works as a musician, composer, curator and teacher in Vienna. Even before and during her classical studies at the Landeskonservatorium Klagenfurt, where she majored in piano, her music was characterised by an interest in improvised, experimental and contemporary music. Through her precise sound research and diversity on the piano, she has made a name for herself with her unconventional and innovative playing.

Alex Kranabetter goes beyond the boundaries of conventional trumpet playing and creates music existing somewhere between free improvization and electroacoustic sound art. What starts off as a tiny fragment, quickly develops its own organic dynamics, and brings about a hypnotic pull. Fleeting melodies, gloomy loops, drones and bumpy beats, which move through empty reverberation spaces, outline the sound architecture. Out of this, emerge multi-layered, introspective pieces beyond any formal restrictions.
